The Locanda del Gallo is a XIIth century country home
owned by the Marchesi Capranica del Grillo.
The
country home: living at the Locanda
Dominating a magnificent hill landscape in the peace and quiet of Umbria's
unspoiled countryside, the Locanda del Gallo is the ideal place to recharge
your batteries.
Glory in the gorgeous sunsets of the Tiberina Valley and enjoy healthy
food rich in genuine flavours: cold-pressed olive oil; aromatic herbs;
vegetables from our own patch; home-baked bread and cakes.
Furnished comfortably in Oriental style, a pleasant contrast with the
ancient architecture, the faithfully restored building has just ten double
bedrooms each with its own bathroom.
Guests at the Locanda del Gallo can ride, go for walks in the surroundings
and, in summer, just hang out round our private pool.
The
ideal environment where to hold courses and residential seminars
On the border of the forest, not too far from the main building, there
is a spacious room of more that 115 square meters with large windows looking
over the valley.
Quiet, noiseless, surraunded by green bushes, the place is equipped with
up to date utilities, it's the ideal environment where to hold courses

The Locanda del Gallo is far from the madding crowd yet
easy to find.
It is less than 30 km from Perugia, 25 km from Gubbio and only 11 km from
the Orte-Cesena Superstrada.
From Florence:
Take the Highway direction Rome, exit Val di Chiana, Highway direction
Perugia then from Perugia continue direction Cesena. After 15 km exit
Ponte Pattoli, direction to the town "Casa del Diavolo", direction
Santa Cristina. After 10 km on the right you will find the "Ristorante
La Dolce Vita": after 100 m. turn on the left to the Locanda del
Gallo.
From Rome:
Take the Highway direction Florence, then exit Orte. Highway direction
Perugia: from Perugia continue direction Cesena. After 15 km exit Ponte
Pattoli then head to the town "Casa del Diavolo". Reach Santa
Cristina then after 10 km on the right you will find the "Ristorante
La Dolce Vita": after 100 m. turn on the left to the Locanda del
Gallo.

Built at the beginning of the 1200 century,
in a strategic territory at the border between Gubbio and Perugia, over
the centuries the castle at S. Cristina has been contended many times
between the two cities.
During the fighting for supremacy, between Eugubins and Perugins, the
castle was destroyed by order from Perugia, 1937th.
Later on, the people from Gubbio took it back, and in 1600th the village
of S. Cristina comes back to be property of Gubbio, even if, the local
landowners, Earls "Della Penna" (earl of the feather), are
from Perugia.
In 1650th, Francesca Della Penna, took
S. Cristina as dowry to Cosimo del Grillo, Noble Florentine Family,
living in Rome.
In 1632nd, Cosimo del Grillo obtained from pope Clemente X, to raise
the wife's village to be a Marquisate. At this time goes back the biulding,
which house today the "Locanda".
In 1831st, the last family descendant, Virginia del Grillo, left her
inheritance to the cousin, Marquise Giuliano Capranica, who added to
this name also hers.
On Virginia's idea, in 1823rd, a new church was built, a sacristy with
it, and the place took the present look.
In 1955 the present owners restored to its original architecture the
mansion, formerly belonging to Marquis Capranica del Grillo, as it had
been neglected over time and damaged by the earthquake.
